"Can" is a conditional. I'm not saying that they are this or that, although IF it were KKK uniforms (which is entirely plausible), I see nothing wrong in that. Joy Division were not American, but they use KKK uniforms in their "Atmosphere" video, because they were intelligent well-informed men who had a penchant for macabre symbols. Because I bring this up, I don't know Kate Bush' lyrics?

those are dunce caps not KKK hoods (check the big "D" on each, and look up the song lyrics -- and don't forget Kate Bush in English, not American) - the figures are not wearing wasks to conceal their identities, they are in white face to show they are clowns or silent mime figures

Kates best song! i only second her to Bob Dylan.

You can have the KKK in a music video without endorsing them. If Kate Bush was pro-KKK, do you really think this would be her medium?

For the common good and to prove that I really DO love Kate, I will leave it out now ... I fully understand what the video is about and so do not need it explained again (Screamingdean5) but thanks anyway - my issue was about what it MAY have looked like and I was getting a little frustrated that almost everyone was denying this when to me it looked quite close ! However, I did not mean to encourage any nastiness or hatred towards Kate, her fans or her work. Cheers xx

The 'dunce' or 'kkk' costumes are in fact what Sufi dancers (whirling dervishes)wear when they do their spinning dance to achieve a spiritual state. It's another great video from the master herself but I DO see a problem with the imagery of someone from another culture putting a 'D' on the Sufi hats. It's a bit like seeing a Bollywood video of a priest, pastor and rabbi wearing dunce hats. Kate may not be a racist but she's not going to get the 'cultural sensitivity of the year' award either.

The video is about knowledge. The guys who allegedly represent the KKK are supposed represent dunces. Dunces were kids in school who weren't too bright(ie. lacked knowledge) and wore dunce hats like those guys are wearing in the video. You'll notice there are two "fools" wearing yellow and red in the video as well. The video is about knowledge and the lack there of! Does everybody get it now?!! |
