Well, I don't know about that. I guess it's a matter of opinion. I think they are both fine machines though.

She doesn't cut as good as an Austofts, I'm from Queenlsnad, Australia and we invented these machines 60 years back so we got history with them, note: that tipper bin looks really wierd.

Thats a weird looking machine, first time ive seen one of those in action, dont get anything like that in scotland! Never even seen a CLAAS track -type harvester around Edinburgh and the borders yet, maybe see something this year!

Right, the stalk is where the sugar's at. All the leaves is considered trash and is best left in the field. The less leaves in your load to the mill the more you get paid. This machine cost around $300,000 ballpark. They don't burn the cane very often b/c of enviromental reasons(smoke) and b/c a cane field on fire is a HUGE fire and can be hard to control. The cane must be cut not long after its burnt. Not sure on the variety of this cane, sorry.

al91176 To burn the cane fields means they have to be bone dry right? You only want the stalks and no leaves? If its easier on equipment to burn the cane first, then why not do it that way? What kind of sugar cane (variety)? Whats your yearly rainfall amount? The last of my stupid questions how much for the harvester?

It is possible for it to choke, but it's pretty rare that it happens. Usually they run about 7mph but can run wide open if they burn the cane first to remove the leaves.

Damn what a nasty looking machine, heaps cooler than a wheat combine.Does she plug up if you push her too hard?,what sort of ground speeds do you run in optimum conditions? |
