I agree with you, every musician makes something different for the same song. Just imagine Tony Levin playing Red bass the same way Wetton did, that would be a shame. And by the way I love the lines Wetton plays for this solo.

I'd always liked Genesis, but had only recently looked up some of Steve Hackett's solo work. I come from a jazz-fusion sort of idiom and if my ears are any judge, he's a monster.

Oh please! Two different players are going to play somewhat differently, even if it's the same music. I have this DVD and Hackett doesn't play "Heat of the Moment" the same way Steve Howe did. Nor did he play "Court of the Crimson King" just like Robert Fripp. It didn't bother me at all.

As I say earlier in the thread, I have full respect for Wetton's work generally, especially with Crimson and Family and even in this song. It's just that those bass pedals for me, are such an important part of the song. Call me a purist but they add power and drama to the climaxes in Hackett's awesome solo. Was just surprised to read that no one else had missed them.

Wetton is a star. And star doesn't respect Mike's line.....

His precise and soft playing, as usual.

Glad to hear it. I couldn't understand why no-one else had pointed this out. How can people not hear how important the original bass pedal arrangement is to the piece. Bass pedals anyone?

I agree

Perdonami brettsinclair, ma i Genesis classici sono un'altra cosa.... Con Peter Gabriel e Steve Hackett, oltre a Rutherford, Banks e Collins.... Thompson e Stuermer sono semplicemente turnisti. |
