You had some good points until you started comparing the translation of different shows done by different fansub groups.

Thank you for this. I sure hope fansubbers will stop measuring e-penises and start subbing in a more proffesional way instead (like the things you noted int his vid). I hate when they put the honorifics in there, it is suppose to be a complete translation, right?

Well...The only thing you can blame fansubs having "San" and "Kun" is it going into kids culture.I mean kids are target audience for this right?Am i the only one who actually buys boxsets but isnt a huge fan of anime?I only like some that supposed to be a parody in the US and serious in Japan.Take Gurran Legann for expample.

Ha! This is brilliant so far. Personally I think subtitling is a balancing act. Yes you want to make it as easy to understand as possible but cultural influences on the story should not be ignored, not on a smal scale but the bigger picture. If there are references to folk lore they should made clear and so shouldn't be dumbed down. However the honorifics and keeping in random Japanese words that can be translated into English anyway is pointless.

Does anyone know which anime is the "Huh ? This is a zentai..." scene from ?

>There is no reasonable equivalent for the word senpaiWhen "senior" can do the trick equally well? Like OtaKing said, the point of translation is to TRANSLATE, not say "Oh, it can't be changed" and leave it as is. |
